Student Housing Snapshot Q1 2020

The Student Housing Q1 snapshot highlights the key figures and insight for the Italian market

10 giugno 2020

The living sectors have defensive investment characteristics as they relate to economic cycles or periods of uncertainty. As such, they are expected to remain more resilient to the COVID-19 real estate impact compared with much of commercial real estate and other more liquid asset classes, notably equities.

Student housing continued to be an attractive sector in EMEA in 2019 and UK took the lion’s share in line with historical trends. In Italy, student housing is still representing an emerging market and transactions involving students’ accommodations were limited in 2019. Nevertheless, the interest in the sector was high and it is contributing to the creation of new structures. Both domestic and international operators are operating in the market and the appeal for the Italian country is sustained by the high number of post-secondary educations students.
